Sandra is a talented sewist / quilter and has such a great perspective on how she approaches her projects. Hand sewing with her grandmother started it all. Thirty years ago, she began her journey with quilting. She loves to hand stitch using the traditional Japanese Sashiko and Boro embroidery styles and incorporating them as decorative features into her designs. Her core materials for quilting are thread and cloth, however, she often employs recycled denim, yarns, dyed fabrics and stamps to transform the ordinary into the extraordinary. She is a teacher who encourages students to be bold with unique fabric creatior.
Sandra’s work has been featured in national magazines and most recently in the Quiltfolk: California and her quilt “Love” was featured in the summer edition of Simply Moderne, an international modern quilt magazine published in Paris. She holds a B.S. in Clothing, Textiles and Design from Arizona State University, Tempe, AZ. and lives in Orange County, CA. website sandrajohnsondesigns.com and her Instagram account
