Description

Use embroidery stitches to bring your fabric art to life. Learn and practice a variety of hand stitches, variations, and combinations. Stitches taught include straight/seed, stem, backstitch, chain, French knot, blanket, feather, fly, and more. Examine ‘fancy’ threads for embroidery, including 6-strand floss, Perle cotton, yarn, ribbon, and trim. Leave with a better understanding of types of hand-sewing needles and how to use them. View samples of art embellished with hand stitching. Kit includes 3 yards of fancy threads, needles, and handouts.

Student Supply List: pencil, standard sewing needle and thread, sharp scissors, four 12 inch squares of muslin, needle threader, thimble, 2 skeins of embroidery floss.
Optional: embroidery hoop (8 inches or smaller).

Biography
Nancy (DeCreny) Franklin began quilting in 1999. Originally from Brooklyn, NY, she is a wife, mother, and dog owner. Nancy is the co-founder of Brown Sugar Stitchers Quilt Guild in Decatur, Georgia and was the guild’s first president.

Nancy has taught quilting online and locally in the Atlanta area and her pieces have been shown at numerous galleries and quilt shows in the Southeast. Her work has been featured in several quilting publications and online programs.  Nancy is a Professional Quilt Appraiser with a concentration in valuing non-traditional and contemporary quilts.

Nancy enjoys making non-traditional quilts using hand embroidery and African fabrics to create innovative art pieces.
