A Special Moment at Xavier University’s Centennial Alumni Banquet

Brown Sugar Stitcher Carolyn W. White was honored at Xavier University’s Centennial Alumni Banquet on Friday, November 7, 2025, in New Orleans, where she presented her quilt, Celebrating a Century of Excellence, to University President Dr. Reynold Verret.

The quilt, a gift from the Class of 1972, marked Xavier’s 100 years of excellence and service. Before its presentation, the quilt was exhibited earlier in the year as part of the HBCU quilt showcase during the Brown Sugar Stitchers Quilt Guild’s 25th-anniversary celebration, Celebrating a Quarter Century of Soulful Storytelling Through the Art of Fiber, at the AUC Woodruff Library.

The banquet, held at the Sheraton Hotel and attended by more than 1,650 guests, included a special introduction by Kimberly Reese, Associate Vice President of Institutional Advancement. She highlighted Carolyn’s connection to the quilting community and her membership in the Brown Sugar Stitchers Quilt Guild since 2006.

Carolyn’s contribution stands as a meaningful tribute to Xavier’s legacy—and a beautiful reminder of how quilts continue to preserve history, celebrate community, and honor the institutions that shaped us.
