Celebrating Valarie Poitier: Keynote Speaker at “Stitching Revolution in Massachusetts”
We are thrilled to celebrate our own Valarie Poitier, longtime member of the Brown Sugar Stitchers Quilt Guild, who served as the keynote speaker for the Framingham History Center’s special event, “Stitching Revolution in Massachusetts: Quilting, Lectures and Dancing.”
This unique program explored Massachusetts’ influential role in the American Revolution—told not through textbooks, but through fabric, storytelling, and movement. As keynote, Valarie brought her deep knowledge, artistry, and passion for quilting to a broader historical conversation, illuminating how fiber art continues to preserve and reinterpret the stories that shape our nation.
Her participation reflects the powerful ways quilters document history, amplify culture, and inspire community engagement. We are proud to see a Brown Sugar Stitcher representing our guild and the legacy of African American quilting on such a meaningful platform.
Congratulations, Valarie, on this well-deserved honor!
